Laura Vuillemin
English and Portuguese to French Translator
Professional Linguist Since 2010

While at school, I knew quickly that I would devote my studies and future career to languages. After getting my French baccalaureate in literature, it’s at university that I really discovered translation, a process that fascinated me straightaway.

Once I graduated with a BA in English, I decided to move to Ireland in order to immerse myself in the English-speaking world and to prepare for my MA in Translation Studies. I stayed in this country for two years, a decisive time not only due to the quality education I received, but also because this is where I was offered my first job, as a French translator and reviewer, right after I finished college.

I worked inhouse from 2010 to 2011 before moving back to France where I continued, for almost seven more years, to remotely hold my position within the Irish company that hired me. After ending my contract, I backpacked through Asia for two months and, once returned from my trip, created my own business.

As for Portuguese, I’ve learned this language by taking classes for almost ten years. Because theory is not enough, though, I regularly go to Portugal to actively practice. My passion for the lusophone world also took me to Brazil and Cape Verde.

On top of translation to which I very much enjoy dedicating my days, I am an avid reader and traveler and take Russian lessons.
